At the GS1 UK Congress in Leicester on 28 February 2007 SRC presented, in association with Cap Gemini, the success story why Albert Heijn has selected to implement Global Data Synchronisation. The SRC-PDM solution is used to exchange product information.
Retailer Albert Heijn has closely collaborated with Cap Gemini, SRC and Microsoft on an automated data management solution to improve the accuracy with regard to the exchange of product information. As a consequence the advantages of Global Data Synchronisation are optimally utilisedt.
Albert Heijn, having its registered office in Zaandam, is, with approximately 700 stores, the largest supermarket chain in the Netherlands. The company constitutes part of Royal Ahold which operates in Europe and the United States. Albert Heijn previously already exchanged data with its 900 suppliers, only this then took place on a manual basis. An automated system had to replace the manual work. The data management solution, SRC-PDM (Product Data Manager) Enterprise Retail Edition, has been selected. This solution is Microsoft based and has been developed by SRC System Integrators BV, which is specialised in EDI/B2B and data synchronisation. Cap Gemini took care of the implementation of the project. The result is that manual actions have significantly been driven back and that a streamlined connection has been created between the data pool and the internal systems of Albert Heijn. The main objective that Albert Heijn had in mind is the reduction of mistakes caused by manual activities. Eventually Albert Heijn expects that the working pressure will reduce and that the speed by means of which products end up at the shelves of the stores will increase.
